Nathaniel Carter

Technology Coordinator

Nathaniel Carter began working with the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center in 2000 as a contracted computer class instructor, and he took over the position of Technology Coordinator in 2001. As the Technology Coordinator he is the primary IT personnel for the organization, which includes managing, supporting, and upgrading a wide range of personal computers and other tech resources for two sites.

Besides supporting SNBC's technological equipment and end users, Nathaniel works to integrate technology throughout Beacon programs and offer technology-centered educational opportunities and experiences to the community. Offerings include basic computer classes for older adults and young children, as well as classes on digital imaging, Excel, or PowerPoint.

Nathaniel incorporates his strong interest in social justice issues and Socratic teaching methods in his work with several youth groups including: SCREAM-a high school film and media group, MOUSE Squad-a group of youth learning to provide tech support to their school, and BAMboozled.org-the longest running high school technology program at SNBC.

Nathaniel majored in Economics at San Francisco State University, is a volunteer adult ally with the education for youth through international travel (TEAM!), and a long time drummer with the Brazilian music and dance group, Fogo Na Roupa.
